allow designation of a matrix of contrasts in chains

Detailed description
The user might specify a matrix of k contrasts, which would allow for Rao-Blackwellized,accurate estimates of the mean (or quantiles) of the contrast. Of course, the user can compute something similar on their own, if they know how, but it would be nice to simplify the process.
